What Do We like to see on a Resume?
· Job history
o Your three last jobs, in order, the most recent job first,the job before that, then the job before that.
o Give us the start month and year, and the ending month and year
· Tell us your job title, but also the three things you spent the most time doing. Name the tools and material you used
o Good: I was a Welder 2, I worked on a stainless steel vessel. I used I fit and then TIG welded had been fit and tacked together by a fitter. I used Lincoln TIG welding machines to complete the welds started by the Tack. Then I ground the welds with an electric grinder
o Not Good: I was a Welder, can do MIG, TIG, Stick, anything you put in front of me, what every they asked me to do I did.
· Tell us what else you did on your job.
o Good: I filled out a QC report, Did safety inspection, I went to the 30 hour OSHA class. I finished welding out skids after the QA inspector said the were good.
o Not Good: Worked on Oil-field projects, did paperwork, went to some classes, built skids
o In every job you did, tell us what role/tasks you started with, and what role you ended with when you left. Use the right technical words, but explain what your role was
o Don’t exaggerate – sometimes were looking for lower level skilled people, and you might eliminate ate yourself
o Be prepared to discuss what ever may show up in a background check
